Debriefing and Assistance for the Accounting Competition Team Regarding the Independent Campus Competition Program—Session 12

Parahyangan Catholic University’s Accounting Study Program won a Competition Grant (Hibah Kompetisi) in the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Merdeka Campus Competition Program in 2021. With regard to the achievement of this competition grant, Parahyangan Catholic University’s Accounting Study Program organized a series of activities, one of which was the debriefing and mentoring of the Accounting Competition Team by inviting accounting alumni and practitioners to deliver the materials for around 35 students of the Accounting Competition Team selected from the classes of 2018 and 2019.

The students gained a variety of knowledge experiences with current topics relevant to the competition and the future of the competition team in the workplace. On Friday, August 6, 2021, an online briefing was held by inviting an alumni of the Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics, Parahyangan Catholic University class of 2011, namely Mrs. Nevil Averill. She started her career as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. After that, she continued her career at Gojek for approximately 3 years. Currently, she serves as Senior Project Finance Manager at PT AIA Financial Indonesia.

On this occasion, he presented the theme Accounting in Gojek, which was very interesting and provided new provisions and knowledge to the Accounting competition team of the Faculty of Economics at Parahyangan Catholic University. The session was opened by her sharing about her work experience. After that, she provided insight about careers that can be pursued after graduating from college. Accounting graduates can work not only as auditors but also in startup companies.

In startup companies, there are some aspects that are important to consider, which are aspects of funding, business development, date of establishment, employees, and also the work environment. In addition, she also discusses the background of the Gojek company, which was once a startup company founded in 2010 and released its application in 2015. She also explained that the acquisitions made by Gojek of various business lines make Gojek’s subsidiaries quite diverse. She also discussed financial statements and how they are prepared in Gojek.

Gojek itself has developed a digital wallet called GoPay. GoPay began to be used in 2015, and in 2018, Bank Indonesia issued a provision that made one QR code that could be used on every digital wallet (all in one) called QRIS. The revenue from GoPay itself is obtained from top-up fees, withdrawal fees, MDR fees, and, of course, many more sources. The next session was a short quiz about taxation carried out by Gojek, and after that, the discussion continued with accounting records carried out by Gojek in accordance with PSAK 72 regarding revenue recognition. Of course, in Gojek, you must also be able to know and distinguish between a principal and an agent. This activity was closed with a question-and-answer session and the delivery of a message from the speaker for participants and all UNPAR Accounting students to always expand their knowledge, remain enthusiastic in their studies, and be proactive to increase their competitive advantage as Accounting students.
